Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Adjectives that come before the noun fit into five categories: BRAGS (Beauty, Rank, Age, Good/bad and Size/quantity).
      2. Adverbs that describe adjectives usually precede them.
      3. Adverbs that modify the verb and adverbs of frequency usually come after the verb.
      4. Extend answers by using a variety of subjects, adding a different time frame and using an element of contrast.

      Keywords

      • Adverb - word that describes a verb or an adjective

      Common misconception

All adjectives go after the noun in French.

While the majority of adjectives are placed after the noun, certain types of adjective go in front. Students should be aware of which adjectives go where in order to speak and write with greater accuracy.

      Teacher tip

Mindmapping content before tackling a writing task on a given theme is a step often missed out by students. If they do this regularly in class, it will also help them to anticipate possible questions in the writing exam.

      Equipment

Mini whiteboards and pens are useful, if available.
