Key learning points

  1. Adjectives that come before the noun fit into five categories: BRAGS (Beauty, Rank, Age, Good/bad and Size/quantity).
  2. Adverbs that describe adjectives usually precede them.
  3. Adverbs that modify the verb and adverbs of frequency usually come after the verb.
  4. Extend answers by using a variety of subjects, adding a different time frame and using an element of contrast.

Common misconception

All adjectives go after the noun in French.

While the majority of adjectives are placed after the noun, certain types of adjective go in front. Students should be aware of which adjectives go where in order to speak and write with greater accuracy.
