Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

      Threads

      Why this why now

Building on their knowledge of modal verbs from KS3, pupils will develop mastery of these in all persons of the verb in the present tense and they will also learn how to express future wishes and plans using the conditional with vouloir. Set in the context of the world of work, pupils will listen to and read texts which explore different career pathways, discuss the pros and cons of different jobs, and articulate their own desires for the future. Further units at KS4 will consolidate the thematic vocabulary and allow further practice of these structures.

      Prior knowledge requirements

      • Pupils can recognise the modal verbs devoir, pouvoir, savoir and vouloir in all persons of the present tense.
      • Pupils know the 'je' form of the modal verbs devoir, pouvoir, savoir and vouloir in the present tense.
      • Pupils know that modal verbs are combined with another verb in the infinitive.
      • Pupils can turn adjectives into adverbs by adding -ment to the feminine form where the English equivalent is -ly.
      • Pupils can create ordinal numbers by (removing -e and) adding ième to numbers.
