Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Indefinite articles (un, une, des) and partitive articles (du, de la, de l', des) change to 'de' after a negative.
      2. [i] sounds like midi.
      3. The negative structure 'ne ... ni ... ni ...' means 'neither ... nor'.

      Keywords

      • Negation - two elements, e.g. 'ne … pas' around the main verb expressing negative meaning

      • Indefinite article - the words 'un', 'une' and 'des' meaning 'a/an', 'some'

      • Partitive article - the words 'du', 'de la', 'de l’' and 'des' meaning 'some'

      Common misconception

Indefinite and partitive articles are used after negative structures.

After a negative structure has been used, indefinite and partitive articles replaced by 'de', e.g. 'je n'ai pas de pain'.
