Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Add '-e', with or without an umlaut, to make most masculine nouns and some neuter nouns plural.
      2. Words ending '-el', '-en' or '-er' may not change in the plural.
      3. To make most feminine nouns plural, add '-n' or '-en'.

      Keywords

      • Plural - more than one

      • WO2 (word order two) - inverts the subject and verb in a sentence

      Common misconception

There is only one way to form the plural in German.

German has several rules for forming plurals. The best way to correctly form plurals is to learn the rules and frequently practise them.

      Teacher tip

This lesson contains a game of four in a row. If you are not using the worksheets, pupils could draw a four by four grid on a sheet of paper.
