Description

This unit explores different types of committed relationships, including romantic partnerships, marriage and civil partnerships. Pupils learn about the characteristics of healthy long-term relationships, legal rights and protections, and how relationships evolve over time.

As Year 9 pupils begin exploring romantic relationships and understanding long-term partnerships, they require accurate information about various types of committed relationships and their legal implications. This unit provides essential knowledge about marriage, civil partnerships, and cohabitation, clarifying legal protections and dispelling myths, such as 'common-law marriage'. At this stage, pupils can understand healthy romantic relationships and how partnerships develop, empowering them to build respectful and equitable relationships as they mature into young adulthood.
