Description

This unit teaches essential first aid skills for managing injuries and emergencies. Pupils learn to treat cuts, burns, fractures, sprains and stings, respond to heat imbalances, choking and anaphylaxis, and provide care for unconscious casualties confidently.

As Year 9 pupils gain greater independence in social situations, sports and activities, they require practical first aid skills to respond effectively to injuries and emergencies. This unit provides essential, potentially life-saving knowledge, including CPR and the use of defibrillators, empowering pupils to act confidently in critical situations. At this developmental stage, pupils can understand emergency protocols and develop the composure needed to provide effective first aid.

  1. Basic first aid: cuts, burns, breaks and sprains, and stings
  2. Basic first aid: heat imbalances, choking and anaphylaxis
  3. Basic first aid: unconsciousness
