Description

This unit emphasises the importance of physical activity for health and wellbeing. Pupils explore practical strategies for staying active, understand the physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise, and learn how active lifestyles support wellbeing.

As Year 8 pupils experience continued physical and emotional changes during adolescence, they need to understand how regular physical activity supports their development, mental health and academic performance. This unit provides practical strategies for maintaining active lifestyles through adolesence. At this developmental stage, establishing exercise habits is crucial for long-term health, resilience and wellbeing throughout adolescence and into adulthood.

  1. How to stay active
  2. The benefits of an active lifestyle

  • Pupils should understand from Year 7 that regular physical activity is important for maintaining a healthy body.
  • Pupils should be familiar with the links between diet, exercise and health from previous units, recognising that lifestyle choices affect both physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Pupils should know from earlier learning about the importance of sleep, time outdoors and balanced lifestyles for maintaining good health and supporting growth during adolescence.
