  • Relationships

Description

This unit examines different types of bullying and their impact on individuals and communities. Pupils learn to recognise bullying behaviours, understand bystander responsibilities, develop strategies to challenge and stop bullying, and know how to access support.

As Year 8 pupils navigate increasingly complex peer relationships and greater online independence, they require sophisticated understanding of bullying dynamics and power imbalances. This unit builds on Year 7 relationship knowledge by examining bystander responsibility and active intervention strategies. At this developmental stage, pupils can understand the serious impact of bullying on mental health and wellbeing, empowering them to create safer, more supportive communities both online and offline.

  2. The impact of bullying
  3. How to stop bullying

  • Pupils should understand from Year 7 what constitutes respectful behaviour in relationships and that bullying, both online and offline, is harmful and unacceptable.
  • Pupils should be familiar with identifying harmful online behaviours from previous units, including recognising when social media or technology is used to hurt or control others.
  • Pupils should know from earlier learning how to report concerns to trusted adults and understand that seeking help for themselves or others is a responsible action.
