Lesson details
Key learning points
- Recall doubling and halving facts to 10
- Doubling the numbers 6-9 gives an even teen number.
- Halving an even teen number gives a number from 6-9
Keywords
Double - To multiply by 2. To have 2 of something.
Halve - To divide into two equal parts.
Common misconception
If pupils are not more fluent in their doubling facts within 5 they may struggle to efficiently double and halve larger numbers.
Provide examples of doubling facts within 5 using representations such as ten frames to support learners.
When pupils halve, they should focus attention on the related doubling fact. Repetition of the stem sentence and use of the same representations will support this.
