Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

Pupils will already have explored tactics to overcome opponents with a focus on keeping possession of a ball either in hand or at your feet. Pupils will have learnt how to move on and off the ball to create space, to create options and to outwit others in ‘donor’ sports and scenarios but also through transferring and applying these skills in specific sports like futsal and netball. They will increasingly show the emotional intelligence to work well with their peers. Later in invasion games they will apply these tactics and strategies in games like football and rugby.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know the importance of creating space by using the full width and depth of the pitch/ court/ field.
  • Pupils understand how to beat defenders through movement with the ball, movement off the ball and passing.
  • Pupils are able to sell a dummy or fake.
  • Pupils show a commitment to marking a player or a zone as part of a team formation.
