Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Being able to ask questions in different tenses, as well as answer them, is key to successful communication.
      2. Using qui, que, où and quand in relative clauses provides more information and adds complexity.
      3. [qu] sounds like 'question' or 'quatre', [en/an] sound like 'enfant' and [e] sounds like 'je'.

      Keywords

      • Relative clause - adds information about the noun in the main clause

      • Relative pronoun - a pronoun that introduces a relative clause e.g. qui, que

      Common misconception

The relative pronouns 'qui' and 'que' can be used interchangeably to translate 'that', 'which' or 'who/whom'.

Use 'qui' to introduce a subject-relative clause. Use 'que' to introduce an object-relative clause.

      Teacher tip

Students might wish to add more vocabulary to the look, cover, write vocabulary activity at the start of the second learning cycle.
