Description

This unit develops pupil understanding of drum grooves, specifically how to create variation through adding embellishments around the basic rock groove. Pupils also learn about the fundamental shared features of pop music.

Pupils develop their knowledge of drum grooves, specifically the use of upbeats in the kick, the open hi-hat function and how to use the toms appropriately. Pupils learn about the role of the fill in highlighting the phrase end and start to develop their ability to improvise within a bar (or half bar) of a given groove. They develop their understanding of DAW capabilities and learn to quantise to 1/8, developing their understanding of semiquavers.
