Why this why now

In this unit, pupils refresh their knowledge of the present tense and embed it in use with previously learnt grammar and vocabulary to describe themselves and others, including their favourite singer or group. Pupils write and talk about cultural events, learning about the Dieppe Festival. Revisiting question and answer structures helps revise and embed this core conversation thread further.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know subject pronouns je, tu, il, elle, on, nous, vous, ils and elles.
  • Pupils know how to conjugate être in the present tense in all persons.
  • Pupils know how to negate a sentence in the present tense using ne...pas.
  • Pupils know that adjectives agree in gender and number with the noun they are describing.
  • Pupils can conjugate present tense -er verbs in all persons.
  • Pupils can form questions using intonation and est-ce que..., with and without question words.
  • Pupils know that the pronoun 'on' can mean people, you, one or we.
