      Why this why now

This unit builds on work in year 7 on the nature of belief by focussing on how Christians view the nature of God and also the first unit of year 8 looking at human nature. It introduces terminology that will be beneficial at KS4, such as omnipotence and beneficence and will help prepare pupils for the year 9 unit on religious experience which also requires analysis of whether theology contrasts with lived experience.

      Prior knowledge requirements

      • Pupils will know that many Christians look to the Bible to help understand the world.
      • Pupils will know that most Christians believe in a world created by God.
      • Pupils will know that Christianity is a monotheistic worldview.
      • Pupils will know that theologians are people who try to understand and discuss the nature of God.
