This unit is situated in Year 11 when pupils have had the opportunity to study two religions in depth. They could build on their learning about relationships and family to consider the wider question of sanctity of life, applying this to arguments around abortion and euthanasia.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Religious believers think God is the cause of the universe
- Atheists do not accept that God caused the universe and look for scientific explanations
- Religious and non-religious believers have to make ethical decisions that impact life and death situations
- Everybody has to obey the law in their country, but religious people may also use religious teachings to help them decide what is right

Religion and life
In this unit pupils will focus firstly on the relationship between religion and science - looking at ideas of creation. They will examine how religions view the world - examining concepts such as stewardship. Finally they will examine how religions speak about the sanctity of life.
