Why this why now
Throughout KS1 and 2, pupils have had the opportunity to choreograph dance sequences in character, demonstrating musicality, emotion and creativity, aligned to multiple stimuli. This unit will take the next step into developing pupils' knowledge and application of specific dance steps and challenge pupils to focus on the aesthetics of their performance as opposed to characterisation. Pupils will be required to utilise all of their knowledge and understanding around choreography, to create and perform complex dance sequences using specific dance steps with accurate timings.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils can use dance as an effective means of communicating ideas.
- Pupils can refine the communication of an idea by applying space, dynamics, relationships or stylistic features.
- Pupils can use a variety of techniques to respond to a stimuli.
- Pupils can vary or develop motifs and use them effectively to build short dances alone or in a group.
- Pupils can utilise a wide range of physical, choreographic and analytical skills concurrently.
