The introduction of lead-in and lead-out strokes develops the muscle memory and spatial awareness needed for the next unit, where pupils will learn the four joins used in cursive writing. By focusing on these transitional skills, this unit ensures pupils are ready for more complex writing, establishing a smooth progression toward fluent, cohesive handwriting.
