Description

This unit explores the importance of respecting the rights of women and girls. Pupils learn about the history of women's rights since the 1800s, compare the experiences of women over time, understand the challenges faced by women and girls in modern Britain, and challneging gender stereotypes.

By Year 5, pupils have developed an understanding of equality and diversity from previous learning. This unit builds on that by exploring the history of women's rights since the 1800s and current challenges facing women and girls in modern Britain. This is timely as pupils develop critical thinking about fairness and inequality. By learning these concepts now, pupils gain a deeper understanding of gender inequality and recognise how attitudes have changed.

  1. How women's rights have changed since the 1800s
  2. Identifying gender stereotypes
  3. Challenging gender stereotypes
  4. Making the world a fairer place
