Description

This unit emphasises keeping the body healthy through good oral hygiene, understanding the importance of sleep and rest for health and wellbeing, and maintaining overall physical health through balanced nutrition and self-care. Pupils learn practical strategies for a healthy lifestyle.

At Year 4, pupils are capable of taking more responsibility for their lifestyle choices and daily health routines. Building on previous knowledge of nutrition and physical activity, this unit extends to include sleep, rest and oral health as essential components of a balanced lifestyle. This is timely as pupils develop greater independence in managing their health. By exploring these concepts now, pupils develop practical routines that incorporate healthy eating, exercise, good sleep habits, and self-care.

  • Pupils should be familiar with good hygiene practices such as washing hands, bathing regularly and brushing teeth to prevent illness and keep bodies healthy.
  • Pupils should know from Key Stage 1 that sleep and rest are important for their bodies to work properly and that they feel better when they get enough sleep.
