Description

This unit explores understanding healthy foods and food groups, the importance of food for growth and energy, planning a balanced food week and recognising that all foods can be part of a healthy diet when eaten in appropriate amounts.

At Year 2, pupils are learning about different types of foods, food groups and their effects on the body. This unit builds on their Year 1 learning about looking after their body and extends it to making informed food choices. It is timely as it teaches pupils the importance of a balanced diet for growth, energy and health, helping them understand that all foods can be part of a healthy diet when eaten in appropriate amounts. By exploring these concepts now, pupils develop foundational knowledge of healthy eating habits and the connection between nutrition and wellbeing.
