Description

This unit explores how it feels to experience emotions such as jealousy, joy and fury. Pupils learn how to name and manage these emotions. Pupils develop self-esteem, understand feelings of loneliness and learn strategies for living happy, emotionally healthy lives.

At Year 4, pupils are experiencing increasingly complex emotions as they navigate sophisticated social relationships and academic challenges. Building on previous years, this unit extends their toolkit to managing feelings such as jealousy, joy and fury alongside developing self-esteem and coping with loneliness. This is timely as pupils face greater independence and intense emotions. By exploring these concepts now, pupils develop emotional regulation skills, understand that difficult feelings are normal and learn strategies for maintaining wellbeing.
