Description

This unit teaches pupils how to respect people of different races and cultures by exploring the history and impact of racism in Britain. Pupils learn about the Windrush generation, race in modern Britain and the dangers of racial stereotypes, developing skills to challenge discrimination.

At Year 6, pupils are developing a more developed understanding of equality and justice as they prepare for diverse secondary environments. Building on previous learning about diversity, this unit deepens understanding of racial and cultural differences through exploring racism's history in Britain and the Windrush generation. This is timely as pupils need context for modern race relations and skills to challenge discrimination.
