Description

This unit provides essential information about the physical and emotional changes during puberty, including understanding bodily changes, menstruation and hygiene during puberty. Pupils develop healthy understanding of development, learn correct terminology and feel prepared for changes ahead.

At Year 4, pupils may begin to experience puberty changes, which can start as early as eight years old. Building on previous understanding of bodies and emotions, this unit provides essential information about physical and emotional changes. This is particularly timely, as early preparation reduces anxiety and promotes a positive body image. By learning these concepts now, pupils develop a healthy perspective on development, understand that puberty is normal and natural and feel prepared about changes ahead, essential for their wellbeing during this transitional period.

  1. How we change during puberty
  2. Menstruation
  3. Staying clean during puberty
