Description

This unit teaches pupils about recognising and avoiding dangers near roads, understanding water safety, staying safe near railways and level crossings and knowing how to call emergency services if needed. Pupils learn to assess risks and make safe choices in different environments.

At Year 3, pupils are starting to spend more time in their community with greater independence. Building on their Year 1 and Year 2 safety knowledge, this unit provides specific guidance for staying safe near roads, water and railways. This is timely as pupils are gaining more confidence and engaging with the world around them. By learning these concepts now, pupils develop an awareness of specific risks, skills to assess danger, and knowledge of how to respond in emergencies, which are essential for their safety as they gain more independence.
