Description

This unit covers understanding household hazards, being careful with cleaning products and chemicals, avoiding dangerous medicines and substances, and knowing when to ask a trusted adult for help. Pupils learn to recognise warning symbols and labels.

At Year 2, pupils are becoming more independent and may encounter household chemicals, medicines and other potentially harmful substances. This unit builds on their Year 1 learning about dangers in the home and extends it to identifying and avoiding risky substances. It is timely as it helps pupils recognise warning labels, understand that some substances can harm their body and know to always ask a trusted adult before touching unknown items. By learning these concepts now, pupils develop essential safety awareness and decision-making skills, crucial for their protection.
