  • Think: knowledge of healthy, active living

Description

This unit will explore the immediate responses our bodies make to cope with the effects of exercise as well as the longer term adaptations it makes in response to training that enable us to cope better with exercise and improve performance.

Pupils will already have in-depth understanding of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems as well as the impact of exercise intensity and duration on our ability to work aerobically. After they deepen their understanding of how the body responds to training they will move on to better understand how to train to improve health, fitness and sporting performance.

  1. The short term responses to exercise and changes in the body
  2. A practical exploration of heart rate response to exercise and recovery
  3. Long term adaptations to training
