Description

This unit will explore the guidelines or principles that we should follow when training to improve health, fitness and sporting performance.

Pupils will continue to develop their understanding of how to train for improved everyday health and/ or sporting performance. From the applied anatomy and physiology units they will have an in-depth understanding of how our bodies respond to exercise and adapt to cope better after a period of training and this knowledge lays the foundations for understanding these training principles. Later in physical training they will discover different methods of training that are of benefit to different individuals at different times in their training programmes.

  1. The principles of training and their application to a personal exercise programme
  2. The FITT principle
  3. Thresholds of training and the Karvonen formula
