Net and wall games: technical proficiency and problem solving through badminton

6 lessons

Threads

  • Move: performance and competition
  • Think: decision making, problem solving and creative thinking

Description

This unit will apply hand-eye coordination and racket skills to badminton with a focus on problem solving to win points and increasing proficiency with serves, clears and smashes. Pupils will also develop their ability to analyse performances to identify strengths and weaknesses.

Pupils will already have explored basic skills to hit forehands and backhands and ideas for maintaining rallies in pickleball. This unit requires pupils to transfer these skills and basic tactics to badminton where every shot is hit without a bounce. They will need to accurately replicate key techniques whilst also figuring out how to outwit their opposition. Later in net and wall games they will understand more about effective performance and further develop their decision making skills.

  1. Effective court movement and strategic thinking through throw badminton
  2. Target practice serving challenges
  3. Underarm and overhead clears to maintain a rally
  4. Exploring ways to win the point
  5. Outwitting your opponents to win a point in doubles
  6. Tournament time with performing and officiating roles in doubles pairings
