Socio-cultural influences: engagement patterns

4 lessons

Threads

  • Connect: cultural and ethical awareness

Description

This unit will examine the socio-cultural factors that impact on physical activity, sport and society. Understanding engagement patterns of different social groups and factors affecting participation require an ability to interpret and analyse data.

Pupils will already know that some sports and physical activities have lower representation from certain socio-economic backgrounds and that it is important we break down these barriers to participation. This unit cements that knowledge from key stage 3, engagement in sport in the local community and awareness of press coverage relating to different social groups. Later in socio-cultural influences pupils will study commercialisation, ethics and behaviour and make connections between the media, sportspeople, sponsors, spectators and society at large.

  1. Engagement patterns of different social groups
  2. The factors that affect participation
  3. Strategies to improve participation
  4. Data analysis of engagement patterns
