6 lessons

Threads

  • Move: application of tactics, strategies and compositional ideas
  • Think: decision making, problem solving and creative thinking

Description

This unit explores a wider range of tactics and strategies to include dispersal, penetration, support and screening in attack whilst defensive strategies of delay, compactness, depth, balance and control/ restraint can be applied in many sports with the ball in hand, at feet or on a stick.

Pupils will already have explored tactics to overcome opponents with a focus on keeping possession of a ball either in hand or at your feet. Pupils will have learnt how to move on and off the ball to create space, to create options and to outwit others in ‘donor’ sports and scenarios but also through transferring and applying these skills in specific sports like futsal and netball. They will increasingly show the emotional intelligence to work well with their peers. Later in invasion games they will apply these tactics and strategies in games like football and rugby.

  1. Playing smart with the ball in your hands
  2. Playing smart with the ball at your feet
  3. Playing smart with the ball on a stick
  4. Design a set plays to overload the attack
  5. Marking players, marking space and adapting on the fly
  6. Respond to tactical challenges in different scenarios
