Description

The unit explores a stylistic approach that outlines the different application of Action-Space-Dynamics-Relationships to four contrasting but inter-related dance styles enabling the learners to draw comparisons and consider why and how wider societal factors affected their evolution.

This unit develops pupils understanding of how we can learn about a society through the arts and how they reflect and affect the norms and accepted culture of their time. Pupils will be introduced to how the dance styles studied spread in terms of their geographic reach as well shifting between fulfilling a social function into an art form. This unit builds upon the work in the ‘Everyday Art’ unit, appreciating the purposes of art. Pupils will refine their sense of aesthetics, accuracy of placement and be able to identify key stylistic qualities.
