Invasion games: basic tactics to overcome opponents in donor sports

6 lessons

Threads

  • Feel: engagement and enjoyment
  • Move: application of tactics, strategies and compositional ideas

Description

This unit explores tactics to overcome opponents with a focus on keeping possession of a ball either in hand or at your feet. Pupils will learn how to move on and off the ball to create space, to create options and to outwit others in ‘donor’ sports and scenarios that can be applied to many sports.

Pupils will already have explored basic principles of attack and defence and experimented with tactics and power plays. They will unpick why creating space is essential for success in invasion games and how to achieve this as a team with deception, creativity and the use of set plays. The importance of good positioning and a strong stance is explored both when shooting and defending. The unit will take an overarching look at the basic tactics required to outwit opponents without focussing on a specific sport or activity.
