Description

This unit will develop pupils’ ability to design and carry out a training programme with a focus on physical fitness and commitment to exercise that is enjoyable and tailored. Pupils will also learn about nutrition to help support them in living a healthy and active life beyond school.

Pupils will already have deepened their understanding of how to set SMART targets that support a meaningful and motivating fitness programme. They will have learnt about some of the barriers to participation and how they can be overcome along with the long term health and fitness benefits of both continuous and interval training programmes to include circuits. Later in health and wellbeing pupils will explore a variety of additional approaches to holistic wellbeing to include couch to 5k; yoga, pilates and mindfulness; and exercises associated with martial arts and self-defence.
