Net and wall games: teaching others tactics and strategies in table tennis

6 lessons

Threads

  • Connect: teamwork and leadership
  • Move: application of tactics, strategies and compositional ideas

Description

This unit will develop core skills required for table tennis and transfer ideas, tactics and strategies from other racket sports. Pupils will focus on fair play and learn about a variety of ways to organise tournaments to help balance competition.

Pupils will already have sharpened their team working skills and ability to manage conflict in different situations. Learning how to organise tournaments and support each other to perform at their best will help cement prior learning in a new context. Pupils can take these skills, experiences and positive attitudes towards participation in a range of net and wall games into life with confidence and consequently lead healthy, active lives beyond school. They will also be able to spectate and socialise in and around competitive sport with an appreciation and understanding of how to play.

  1. Pushing and slicing to keep it in play
  2. Topspin attack
  3. Percentage play and building a rally to create openings
  4. Deception
